GO: RIGHT STATE
Breaking once again with the “floppies only” rule to show some fantastic comic cover design, this time for Vertigo’s RIGHT STATE graphic novel which was released in August.
What makes this cover so great is, aside from its great graphic strength, that it doesn’t look like a graphic novel at all — but as something you might expect to find on the political thriller bookshelf (which, obviously this story is): photographic imagery is used to great effect, combined with the smudged and rough graphic treatment of the overlaying graphics and type. From time to time comic book publishers try to invade the traditional book market by dressing up their comics and graphic novels as “regular” books or novels, ending up with something that is neither here nor there.
This book though, manages to look both parts — maybe more so the latter.
A lot of credit goes to the design team behind the cover (Designed by Lizzy Margiotta whilst at agency I Am Always Hungry) on the beautiful execution, and Vertigo pushing it through.
