A look at the design of comic book logos & their covers

GO: Punk Rock Jesus
Even though I have yet to read the first issue, judging by the cover I can get a good idea of what Sean Murphy’s new Vertigo series Punk Rock Jesus is all about. The design of the cover is a great pastiche on the punk aesthetic and the attention to detail is tremendous. Even though the final image has been assembled and embellished digitally, a lot of hand-drawn craft has gone into this if you look closely — the “PuNk Rock” type for example. The mix of textures and collage effects never distract from the overall image, and graphics and illustration are working hand in hand. The only thing I’d change is the outline stroke on the stencilled JESUS, mainly because it defeats the purpose of the spray painted effect.
