A look at the design of comic book logos & their covers

GO: Dancer

Already into its 3rd issue, the covers of Dancer — the new spy thriller from Nathan Edmondson and Nic Klein (full disclaimer: I worked with Nic on the covers for VIKING) — are great exercise in composition and restraint. All covers are limited to a blue colour palette with a striking accent of red that pulls the protagonist into focus. The logo design is and equally minimal affair, using a dot matrix inspired design for the title and creator credits. The contrast between the logo design and the actual word (and the images it would conjure up) is hard, bordering on jarring — but in the context of the book it makes a lot of sense and can be (at least to me) interpreted in a lot of ways.
